New Delhi: The decision to remove Rohit Sharma from the ODI captaincy has created a stir in the cricket world. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced on Saturday that Shubman Gill will now captain the ODI team. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the 2027 World Cup.
Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif called this decision "hasty and insensitive." He released a video on social media and said, "Rohit Sharma gave India 16 years, and we couldn't give him even one year as captain."
Kaif said that Rohit has developed, taught, and handled the team under pressure. "When it came to giving him the captaincy for another year, we couldn't even give him that."
Kaif praised Shubman, saying he has potential, but making such a quick change could impact the team environment.
Kaif also questioned Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar about whether they made the decision at the right time.
A debate has now erupted among cricket fans and former players about whether the change was right or not.
