Both players are part of the Indian ODI team for the first time since the Champions Trophy in March. Meanwhile, chief selector Ajit Agarkar has broken his silence on Rohit and Virat's ODI retirement plans (Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli ODI Retirement Plan).

Is the Rohit-Virat era coming to an end?

Ajit Agarkar says that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli do not want to discuss the 2027 World Cup at this time. If this is true, it can be assumed that both players are considering retirement from international cricket.

Rohit Sharma's record as captain -

The selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, met today in Ahmedabad, where the first match of the Test series between India and the West Indies is being played.

Shubman Gill, who became India's Test captain earlier this year and was appointed vice-captain of the T20 team during the Asia Cup 2025, has now been given the responsibility of ODI captaincy. This makes him the first captain to lead India in all three formats.

Rohit Sharma has been India's full-time ODI captain since December 2021. During this period, he led India to 42 wins, 12 losses, one tie, and one draw out of 56 ODIs. He led India to Asia Cup victories in 2018 (as stand-in captain) and 2023. He also led Team India to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and won the 2025 Champions Trophy under his captaincy.
