IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad Signs David Payne; KKR Also Announces Replacement

Ahead of the commencement of IPL 2026, significant changes have been witnessed within the squads of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Following the withdrawal of players due to injuries, both franchises have added new players to their respective teams as replacements.

David Payne Replaces Jack Edwards at SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad has inducted England's experienced left-arm fast bowler, David Payne, into their squad after Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards was ruled out due to injury. Payne joins SRH for a price of ₹1.5 crore.

David Payne's T20 Career:

  • Experience: Vast experience spanning 233 T20 matches.
  • Wickets: 304 wickets, taken at an impressive average of 21.16.
  • Achievement: Emerged as the top wicket-taker in the 2024 T20 Blast, claiming 33 wickets.
  • League Experience: He has won a title with the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL) and has also played in 'The Hundred' and the ILT20.

Change in Captaincy as Well; Cummins' Absence Will Be Felt

The challenges for SRH do not seem to be subsiding. Star player Pat Cummins will not be available at the start of the tournament, leading to the appointment of Ishan Kishan as the team's interim captain. It is worth noting that Jack Edwards was acquired in the auction for ₹3 crore.

Saurabh Dubey Joins KKR; Akash Deep Ruled Out

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have also suffered a setback. Fast bowler Akash Deep has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

In his place, KKR has signed left-arm fast bowler Saurabh Dubey for ₹30 lakh.
