Harbhajan Singh Surprised by Rohit Sharma’s Removal as India ODI Captain

The decision to strip the 38-year-old Rohit of the ODI captaincy has created excitement and discussion in the cricket world. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh congratulated Gill on being appointed captain and also questioned the decision to strip Rohit of the ODI captaincy.

Harbhajan Singh said on JioHotstar
"First of all, congratulations to Shubman Gill. He has captained the team very well in Tests and now he has been given the responsibility of the ODI team. This will be a new challenge for him as he has not captained the ODI team before."

However, Harbhajan Singh admitted that the decision was a bit surprising as Rohit Sharma has a great record in white-ball cricket.

"Rohit has a very good record in white-ball cricket. Honestly, it's a bit surprising not to see him captain, even though he has been selected in the team."

Harbhajan Singh further stated that Rohit has led India to victory in numerous tournaments, including the Champions Trophy, and is one of the pillars of Indian cricket. He also said that he believed he would have been named captain if he had gone on the Australia tour.

"Gill is very talented, but if he was given the responsibility after 6-8 months or a year, it would have been fine. There is still a lot of time till the 2027 World Cup."
