Yashasvi Jaiswal has gone level with Virat Kohli for the most runs by an Indian batter in a bilateral Test series against England as he continues his fine form with the bat.
Jaiswal had 618 runs before coming on to bat in the second innings of the Ranchi Test and needed 37 more to tie Kohli's record. The Indian star batter made the record during the 2016-17 series when England had toured India.
Jaiswal now stands tall with 655 runs, mirroring Kohli's incredible feat from 2016. His relentless form throughout this five-match series includes two masterful double centuries and two fifties, boasting an astonishing average of 93.57.
Cricket fans remember Kohli's dominance against England in the 2016/17 tour, where he piled on 655 runs including two centuries and two half-centuries, his highest score a towering 235.
The Indian opener will now be aiming to be the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to get to the 700-run mark in a bilateral series in the upcoming Test in Dharamshala. Yashashvi Jaiswal will also be looking to break the records of Graham Gooch and Joe Root, who hold the first and second spots when it comes to most runs scored in a single India vs England Test series.
Gooch scored 752 runs in 1990 and Root got 737 during the 2021–22 series in England.
Most runs by an Indian batsman in a test series against England:
| Sr No. | Name | Runs | Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | Yashasvi Jaiswal | 655* | 2024 |
| 2. | Virat Kohli | 655 | 2016 |
| 3. | Rahul Dravid | 602 | 2002 |
| 4. | V Kohli | 593 | 2018 |

Jaiswal has been on a dream run in the ongoing series against England and started off with an aggressive 80 runs in Hyderabad. The opener's 209 laid the foundation for India's win in Vizag and he followed it up with another double hundred in Rajkot to allow the hosts to take the lead in the series.
This meant that Jaiswal became the third Indian batter after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli to score back-to-back double hundreds in Test cricket.
