English cricketer Kevin Pietersen on Thursday appreciated PM Narendra Modi for taking action up for the planet's rhino species and credited his leadership for the increasing number of rhinos in India.
The former English cricketer quoted a tweet by Prime Minister Modi where he was praising the Assam government's decision to burn rhino horns, a coveted item among poachers.
"Thank you, Narendra Modi. A global leader standing up for the planet's rhino species. If only more leaders would do the same. And this is the reason why rhino numbers in India are rising exponentially. What a hero," said Kevin Pietersen, who is an active campaigner for saving rhinos.

"Commendable effort by Team Assam. The One-Horned Rhino is India's pride and all steps will be taken for its well-being," PM Modi said in the tweet.
In a move to desist, poachers, the Assam government had on Wednesday burned 2,479 rhino horns, the world's largest stockpile destroyed in a single day, to bust a myth that the horns have miraculous medicinal properties.
