Five players were released by Punjab Kings, the two most well-known being Shahrukh Khan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka.
With just five players released, Punjab Kings is one of the clubs that has kept the majority of its roster. But among those releases, Shahrukh Khan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa are the most well-known.
Shahrukh's dismissal is particularly unexpected because the Tamil Nadu batter's finishing abilities had greatly improved in the previous season, and his contributions would have been sufficient to earn him a more permanent spot in the team's core.
After being added to the auction pool, one wonders if Chennai Super Kings will be interested in bidding for him. SRK had amassed 156 runs in 14 games, but what makes him valuable to any team is that those runs came lower down the order, mostly in the latter part of the innings, and with a strike rate of 165.96.
