Kylian Mbappe beats Lionel Messi to win Golden Boot award in FIFA World Cup

In a thrilling finale to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final Golden Boot competition, Kylian Mbappe edged out Lionel Messi. Both Messi and Mbappe had five goals into the World Cup final, but Messi took the lead after scoring his penalty in the first half.

When France was down 2-0 against Argentina late in the second half and had not fired a shot until the 70th minute of the game, it appeared that their chances were gone. Mbappe, on the other hand, had other plans and scored twice in a remarkable two-minute span to completely change the course of the match.

Mbappe surpassed Lionel Messis 7 goals in the competition and scored 8 of his own, including 2 penalty kick goals. Messi had the advantage against Mbappe during normal time, but in the last seconds of extra time, the Argentine captain tied the score by tapping in a rebound from Hugo Lloris.

With four goals from penalties, Messi currently owns the record for scoring in all of the FIFA World Cup knockout games.

When Montiel gave up a penalty in the games 118th minute, Mbappe took over as the Argentine captain once more in the extra period. Mbappe outperformed Messi in terms of goals scored, finishing the tournament with 8 while converting his last attempt. This meant that Mbappe, who is only 23 years old, is now the youngest-ever winner of the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot and has the most goals in finals.
