With four goals from penalties, Messi currently owns the record for scoring in all of the FIFA World Cup knockout games.
When Montiel gave up a penalty in the game's 118th minute, Mbappe took over as the Argentine captain once more in the extra period. Mbappe outperformed Messi in terms of goals scored, finishing the tournament with 8 while converting his last attempt. This meant that Mbappe, who is only 23 years old, is now the youngest-ever winner of the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot and has the most goals in finals.
