IPL :Pragyan Ojha Names Kane Williamson to the next captain and Ravindra Jadeja can be a vice-captain of CSK, Kane Williamson to lead the Chennai Super Kings from next season onwards.
Former India spinner, Pragyan Ojha has picked Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Kane Williamson to lead the Chennai Super Kings from next season onwards.
MS Dhoni has led CSK to three IPL titles – and the team has emerged as a strong contender for their fourth this season, as they lead the points table with 5 consecutive wins after an early loss. He has a win percentage of over 60 leading the Yellow Army and has missed the playoffs only once.
The legendary MS Dhoni is in the last leg of his glittering career. And, with Dhoni over 39 years of age, it is important for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side to look for the successor who can take up Dhoni’s place as the skipper of the CSK side.
And, former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha has suggested a candidate whom the CSK side can look at. Ojha opined that CSK stalwart Ravindra Jadeja can don the role of the vice-captain and can be of help to the captain.
But according to Ojha, Kane Williamson should be the next skipper of the CSK franchise. Ojha even stated that Williamson is being underutilized by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side. Adding that the mega auctions are coming up next year, Ojha stated that if MS Dhoni does not play next year, then Williamson should lead the Chennai side.
Ravindra Jadeja can be a vice-captain where if you need some help then he can be your guy. But if you’re talking about captaincy, then if there’s one guy who can do it, it’s Kane Williamson.
He isn’t being utilized much there (at SRH). Mega-auction is next year, if MS Dhoni is playing then this question shouldn’t arise in the first place. However, if he doesn’t play then you can bring in Kane Williamson as a captain,” said Ojha as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The names of Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina are also being thrown in the hat to lead CSK from next year. But if one is to believe Pragyan Ojha it would be the New Zealand skipper to replace ‘Thala’ at the helm.
When David Warner was banned for his ball-tampering involvement in South African, it was Kane Williamson who led the Sunrirsers Hyderabad to the final of the 2018 IPL – but lost to CSK in the final. He then took his country to the final of the 2019 World Cup – they lost to England by a whisker.
Pragyan Ojha reckons Jadeja could be the vice-captain owing to his seniority at CSK and experience, but, if Dhoni isn’t there next year, then the former off-spinner sees no one but Williamson leading the CSK.
