The India vs Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2023 had to be abandoned due to rain. Despite this, Pakistan maintained their top position in Group A, while India earned their first points in the tournament as the match ended in a draw. During the game, rain interrupted play before the second innings could be completed, forcing the officials to call off the match in Pallekele on Saturday.
In the first innings, Ishan Kishan played a vital role for India with a score of 82, while Hardik Pandya contributed 87 runs. This partnership helped India reach a total of 266 runs. However, Pakistan's bowlers, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, wreaked havoc in the early stages. Afridi was the standout performer for Pakistan, taking four wickets, while Rauf and Naseem Shah both secured three wickets each, marking a historic occasion where pacers took all ten wickets in an Asia Cup match.

Before the game began, India's captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first in their opening match of the tournament. Ravi Shastri, providing insights on the pitch conditions, noted that this pitch had more grass compared to the previous one used in the Pakistan vs Nepal match. The track appeared slow, with the bounce expected to be on the lower side. Early grip on the ball and potential spin were also mentioned. Shastri suggested that a challenging score on this wicket would be in the range of 260-270 runs.
