Pakistan's selectors made a bold decision on Friday by naming just one specialist spinner in their 15-member squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The squad, led by Mohammad Rizwan, includes nine batsmen, emphasizing a batting-heavy approach. The only specialist spinner, 26-year-old Abrar Ahmed is added to the squad.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that squad changes can be made until February 11, following ICC regulations. The selectors have recalled all-rounders Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf, along with opener Fakhar Zaman, who replaced the injured Saim Ayub.
Fakhar returns after last playing in the 2023 World Cup, while Khushdil's last outing was in 2022. Faheem was last seen in the 2023 Asia Cup. Left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, batsman Irfan Khan Niazi, and opener Abdullah Shafique have been dropped, making way for Faheem, Fakhar, Khushdil, and Saud Shakeel.
