The following two films in Sony's Academy Award–winning animated Spider-Verse movie trilogy were originally intended to be two halves of one film, but they were eventually divided into separate releases. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released in June 2023 to enormous critical and economic success. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was once scheduled to open on March 29, 2024, after the release of the second film.

However, because of the SAG-AFTRA strikes, the upcoming release date of Beyond the Spider-Verse has been rescheduled to an unknown time as part of the Sony Marvel movie alterations.
