Maruti Suzuki India is going to launch the facelift version of its most popular car Swift in India on 9 May 2024. Seeing people's inclination towards the car, some Maruti Arena dealerships have started taking offline bookings for it. The new Swift will be one of the major launches for Maruti this year. After this, the company will launch the new Dezire compact sedan in the market later this year.
According to media reports, the next generation Swift codenamed YED will come with advanced safety features like ADAS with 6 air bags compared to the current model. Maruti's parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation unveiled the fourth generation Swift at the Auto Motor Show in Tokyo, Japan.
The biggest change in the popular hatchback will be in its powertrain. In this, instead of the K12 four-cylinder petrol engine found in the current model, a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine of the Z-series will be given. This engine generates power of 90hp and torque of 113Nm.
Transmission details of the new Swift have not been revealed yet, but it is expected that it will have the option of 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox. At the same time, it can also be offered with CNG and hybrid engine options.
Talking about the design, it retains its old look, but on closer look many new design elements are visible. Sharp looking headlamps with projector setup have been provided in its front, these have inbuilt LED daytime running lamps. A redesigned honeycomb pattern black grille with dark chrome finish is placed between the two headlamps.
The company logo is now placed above the grille and just below the bonnet. Some changes have also been made to the front bumper and the front fog lamp gets a different housing and looks much cleaner than before. There is no change in the side profile except for 16-inch alloy wheels. The taillights at the rear have been changed. Now they are smaller and sportier than before. Hybrid badging is given on the tailgate.
The new Swift is 15mm longer, 40mm wider and 30mm taller than the outgoing model, but the wheelbase remains the same as the outgoing model at 2,450mm. The company is calling it the fourth generation model, while the new-gen Swift is based on the same Heartect platform.
Suzuki has also made changes in the interior of the car. The new generation Swift gets an all-new dashboard layout with a black and white dual-tone theme, inspired by the Ford Figo, Baleno and Brezza. It gets a new dashboard layout with a 9.0-inch floating infotainment system, sleek AC vents and HVAC controls at the bottom. Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car technology, steering-mounted controls and automatic climate control.
The new Swift will also get features like 360-degree camera and many ADAS features like dual sensor brake support, adaptive high beam assist, driver monitoring system and collision mitigation braking system. Apart from this, ventilated seats, electronic parking brake with auto hold and 6-airbags can also be available.
Prices for the current model start at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom), after the inclusion of new features and design, the new Swift is expected to start at Rs 6.3 lakh (ex-showroom). In India, its competition will continue with Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago.
