Domraju Gukesh of India has become the youngest chess player in the world to win the World Chess Championship.
18-year-old D Gukesh created history by becoming the World Chess Champion
India's Domraju Gukesh has won the 2024 World Chess Championship by defeating China's Ding Liren in the 14th round. By winning this tournament played in Singapore at the age of just 18, Gukesh has become the youngest chess champion in the world. He has broken the record of Garry Kasparov, who had the distinction of becoming the world champion in 1985 at the age of 22 years and 6 months. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a congratulatory message to Gukesh.
The World Championship did not start well for D Gukesh as he fell behind in the first round itself, but he made a tremendous comeback in the third round. India's 18-year-old star took the lead in the 11th round, but he lost the next round as Ding Liren was not ready to back down. Let us remind you that Domraju Gukesh qualified for the World Championship by winning the Candidates Tournament this year. After becoming the world champion, D Gukesh could not control his emotions.
