Profile:

Tarisai Musakanda was born on Oct 31, 1994. He is one of Zimbabwe's most promising players, is a top-order batsman with quick hands and explosive hitting power as well as a skilled bowler who can bowl both spin and seam. The young right-hander, then 19 years old, made his professional debut in 2014 after returning from the ICC U-19 World Cup.

For the Mid-West Rhinos in 2014, Musakanda made his List A and first-class debuts. The Masvingo-born batsman, who had been making a name for himself on the local circuit for more than two years, made his ODI debut in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka. Musakanda was placed at the vital number three position in the tantalizing match, and he did not disappoint, scoring a quickfire 36 from 37 balls.

On July 14, 2017, the teenager made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in a one-off series. It was a disaster for him as he only got 6 runs in two innings, getting out for a duck in the second innings, and he was later cut from the team. He played his first T20I encounter against Pakistan the following month on July 1st and finished with the game's highest total of 43 runs in the second innings.

The national team selectors were delighted with his effort even though Zimbabwe lost the game. An educated young guy like Musakanda would be a strong candidate for leadership in the approaching years, once Zimbabwe cricket is back to its full glory, as a result of the current difficulties facing the country's cricket team.
