Kurtis Patterson is an elegant, tall, left-handed batsman who plays for New South Wales. He plays as a middle-order batsman and represents Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.
Patterson struck the headlines when he scored a ton on his Sheffield Shield debut aged just 18 years and 206 days, making him the youngest debutant to achieve this feat. He played a scintillating knock scoring 157 against Western Australia in 2011. However, after that knock, he was nowhere to be seen for almost two years as his next First-Class appearance came in 2013. His breakthrough season came in 2015-16, when he scored 737 runs in the season, making him the highest run-getter of his team.
Kurtis finally earned his maiden Test call-up in January 2019 when he was brought into the fold to face Sri Lanka. His inclusion was unexpected as he was not included in the initial squad but was picked later following two centuries in as many innings for Cricket Australia XI. In just his second Test match, Kurtis scored his maiden century. He played an unbeaten knock of 114 runs and justified the faith that the selectors showed in him.
Once David Warner and Steven Smith served their suspension, they were immediately drafted in the squad and there was no place for Kurtis Patterson. Also, Kurtis' poor run of form in the past five months coincided with that and he was not included in the 2019 Ashes squad.
