The Indian team has had a very disappointing performance under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 being played in the UAE, in which it was eliminated from the group stage itself. At the same time, former captain Mithali Raj has criticized the performance of Team India and has also demanded a change of captain.

Why is BCCI preparing to remove Harmanpreet Kaur from captaincy?

All Indian fans expected a better performance from the team in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, but Team India was eliminated from the group stage itself, after which now the demand to remove Harmanpreet Kaur from the captaincy has also started rising. In this mega tournament being played in UAE, the Indian team was among the strong contenders to win the title, but it had to face a crushing defeat from New Zealand in its very first match. After this, the team defeated Pakistan and Sri Lanka in its next 2 group matches, but in the last match it had to face defeat against Australia by 9 runs.

Now former Team India captain Mithali Raj has strongly criticized this performance of the Indian women's team and has also given a statement regarding the change in captaincy.

In her statement to news agency PTI, Mithali Raj said about the shameful performance of the Indian team in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 that our team could not adapt quickly to the conditions of UAE. Apart from this, no clear picture was seen in the batting order of the team. The fielding of the team was also very poor in the tournament. We should have won the match against Australia but the defeat in this match made it clear that we have not been able to improve for the last three years.

We should have tried to finish the match against Australia earlier but we took it to the last over, which has been seen before. On the slow wicket here, other teams have come to play with a better strategy than us, in which the New Zealand team is the biggest example of this, but we could not succeed in doing so.

Will Harmanpreet Kaur step down from captaincy?

On the question of removing Harmanpreet Kaur from captaincy, Mithali Raj said that if the selectors want to change the captaincy after the disappointing performance in this tournament, then they should take a decision soon because you have to play the next World Cup soon, so you cannot delay for long. I think you should choose a young captain in which Jemima Rodrigues is a good option because she is only 24 years old and can handle the responsibility of captaining the team for a long time.
