Shubman Gill will miss the fourth T20 match against South Africa. He will be sidelined due to a foot injury. According to media reports, Gill sustained the injury during a training session. It is reported that Sanju Samson might replace him in the playing eleven. Gill, the vice-captain of the T20 team, has scored only 32 runs in the first three T20 matches of the series against South Africa.
The fourth T20 match between India and South Africa is scheduled to be played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The match was supposed to start at 7 PM Indian time, but the toss was delayed due to fog. The BCCI has not yet issued any statement regarding the severity of Gill's injury.
Following Shubman Gill's withdrawal, there is speculation that Sanju Samson might get a chance in the playing 11. Samson hasn't played a single match in this series so far, but he could open the batting with Abhishek Sharma in the fourth T20. It's worth remembering that Gill also missed the ODI series against South Africa due to a neck injury.
Shubman Gill has been facing continuous criticism for the past several weeks. He hasn't scored a single half-century in his last 18 T20 innings. In the third T20 match against South Africa, he scored 28 runs, but these runs came off 28 balls. His last half-century came against Zimbabwe in July 2024, where he scored 58 runs off 39 balls. However, in the 18 innings since then, Gill has only managed to cross the 40-run mark twice.
