Concerns have grown about the fitness of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian cricket team's star batsman and ODI vice-captain. His condition is reported to be more serious than expected following an injury sustained during the recently concluded ODI series against Australia. His oxygen level reportedly dropped to 50 after the injury, and he had to be hospitalized for several days.
Iyer has now returned to India and is focusing on his recovery in Mumbai, but his chances of playing in the South Africa ODI series starting November 30 appear slim.
During the third ODI against Australia, Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious fall while attempting a diving catch. The incident occurred at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where he fell to the ground while attempting to take a catch from wicketkeeper Alex Carey. He subsequently experienced severe pain, and his condition deteriorated within minutes.
According to sources, Iyer's oxygen level suddenly dropped to 50 and he was unable to stand properly for about 10 minutes. A BCCI official said that at that moment, he "felt blacked out." He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he received first aid.
This means that his participation in India's upcoming South Africa series is considered almost impossible.
Although Iyer's recovery is progressing well, he shared a photo of himself smiling in the sun on his social media account on Monday. He captioned it, "The sun is the best therapy."
This post brought some relief to fans, but his return to cricket still seems far-fetched. The medical team estimates that he will need at least another month of rest.
Shreyas Iyer's fans are constantly praying for his speedy recovery on social media. Iyer is known for his calm nature, fitness, and dedication to the game. Hopefully, he will recover fully soon and return to Team India's middle order.
