Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will not play in the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies, which begins in Ahmedabad on October 2. The Indian selectors are scheduled to meet on September 24, where the Ajit Agarkar-led committee will name a 15-member squad for the series. This squad will be two players shorter than the one selected for last year's home Test series against New Zealand.

Rishabh Pant injury

Rishabh Pant was injured during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England earlier this year. He fractured his left foot in the fourth Test in Manchester. Although he batted in the first innings, N. Jagadeesan replaced him before the final Test. Pant is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He is working on his conditioning and awaiting further reports from the medical team. No specific date has been set for his return to cricket. Following the West Indies series, India is scheduled to play a limited-overs series in Australia starting October 19.

In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel will be India's primary wicketkeeper in the West Indies series. Jurel kept wickets in the last two Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England. He is currently playing against Australia A in Lucknow. N. Jagadeesan, who opened the innings against Australia A and shared wicketkeeping duties with Jurel, could be included in the squad as a backup wicketkeeper.

Nitish Kumar Reddy of Andhra Pradesh and Devdutt Padikkal of Karnataka could also be included in the squad for this series. Devdutt Padikkal: He has been in the news since his 150-run innings against Australia A. In last year's Perth Test against Australia, he scored 0 and 25 while batting at number three.

Nitish Kumar Reddy After recovering from a knee injury sustained in England, he has been included in the squad for the second four-day match against Australia A. He has played seven Tests and could play a key role as an all-rounder.
