Sanju Samson will be out of action for at least five to six weeks due to a blow to his right index finger sustained during the fifth T20I between India and England at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Samson was struck by a rising delivery from Jofra Archer after hitting the first ball of the match for a six. Despite the injury, he continued briefly but was dismissed soon after and did not come out for the second innings.
Reports suggest that Samson's finger is fractured, ruling him out of the ongoing Ranji Trophy. He is expected to recover in time to return to competitive cricket for the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he plays for Rajasthan Royals.
A source from the BCCI confirmed the injury, stating that it would take Samson five to six weeks before he can resume proper net practice. As a result, he is likely to miss Kerala's Ranji Trophy quarter-final clash against Jammu & Kashmir. His return to action is anticipated to be during the IPL, where Rajasthan Royals are awaiting his comeback.
As of now, Sanju Samson is expected to make his return to competitive cricket during the 2025 IPL season. After suffering a fracture to his right index finger, Samson is ruled out for five to six weeks, which will cause him to miss the Ranji Trophy. However, the wicketkeeper-batter is anticipated to recover in time for the 2025 IPL and could play for Rajasthan Royals.
