The report said that the Delhi Capitals franchise had offered captaincy to Rahul, which he refused to accept.

After KL Rahul's refusal to captain, there are now speculations that Akshar Patel can take over the command of the Delhi franchise. Because, the real struggle for captaincy was between these two names.

Delhi Capitals bought KL Rahul in the IPL 2025 mega auction by bidding Rs 14 crore. Since Rahul has had the experience of captaining in the IPL before. He was the captain of Punjab Kings in 2020-21 and Lucknow Super Giants from 2022 to 2024. In such a situation, when he joined Delhi, his name was at the forefront in the race for captaincy.

But, now as media reports are claiming that he wants to play only as a player, this decision of Rahul can also work for Delhi. KL Rahul has been one of the most consistent performers in IPL. He has scored 500 or more runs in 6 out of 7 seasons of IPL played from 2018 to 2024.

If Rahul is not the captain, then Axar seems certain to become the captain. But the problem is that he does not have much experience of captaincy in IPL like Rahul. As a player, he has proved himself many times with the ball and bat.
