Ahead of the start of IPL 2026, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) paid tribute to one of the team's legendary players by retiring a special jersey. The team announced the jersey's retirement via social media. So, let's find out which player the franchise has honored by permanently retiring his jersey.

That player is none other than the legendary West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, in whose honor the team has retired the number 12 jersey. It is worth noting that Russell has retired from the sport and has bid farewell to the IPL ahead of the upcoming season.

In fact, the franchise had released Russell, following which he deemed it appropriate to retire rather than play for another team. However, following his retirement, he will now assume the role of 'Power Coach' within KKR. Thus, even after stepping down as a player, he will remain associated with the Kolkata franchise.

Andre Russell played a total of 140 matches in his IPL career, 133 of which he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was a part of the Indian Premier League for 13 seasons, playing 11 of those seasons for the Knight Riders. He made his IPL debut in 2012 while playing for the Delhi Capitals.
