Cricket Ireland has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Veteran batsman Paul Stirling will once again lead the team in this mega event. The selectors have opted for a blend of experience and young talent, retaining 12 players from the 2024 tournament squad.
Betting on Experience and the Entry of New Faces
Ireland's National Selector Andrew White expressed his satisfaction with the team selection, stating that they are fully prepared to address the shortcomings of 2024. The team includes 12 players who played in the West Indies and the USA, reflecting the team's stability.
However, the squad also includes three new and exciting names:
- Tim Tector: Harry Tector's younger brother, a top-order batsman and off-spin bowler.
- Ben Calitz: A 23-year-old left-handed middle-order batsman.
- Matthew Humphreys: A 23-year-old left-arm spinner.
Ireland's Tough Challenge in Group B
Ireland has been placed in Group B of the T20 World Cup. This group includes co-hosts Sri Lanka, Australia, Oman, and Zimbabwe. Ireland will begin its campaign on February 8, 2026, against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
