The dead body of a 21 year old youth was found in a gallery in Eden Gardens. The deceased was identified as Dhananjay Barik, son of a ground staff member. Senior police officer said that Dhananjay was suffering from depression.

Eden Gardens of Kolkata is also called the Mecca of Indian cricket. This is one of the historical stadiums of the country. Eden Gardens hosted the men's and women's final matches of the 2016 T20 World Cup. Kolkata Police has recovered the body of a 21-year-old youth from a gallery in Eden Gardens. Investigation of this matter is going on.

Kolkata Police on Monday recovered the body from a gallery in the historic Eden Gardens. The deceased was identified as Dhananjay Barik, son of a ground staff member.

According to PTI report, Dhananjay's body was discovered by a groundskeeper. According to the information, the dead body of the youth was found hanging on the upper tier of Gallery-K of Eden Gardens.

Reason for suicide

A senior police officer in charge of the investigation revealed that Dhananjay was probably suffering from depression as he was not appointed as the ground staff at Eden Gardens like his father and relative.

Eden Gardens and controversy

The police officer also informed that the relatives of the deceased had complained about his disappearance at the Maidan police station on Sunday. Well, this is not the first time that Eden Gardens has been in controversy due to an accident. On August 9, there was a fire in the dressing room, in which many sports equipment were burnt. The incident occurred during construction work, which was being prepared for the ODI World Cup.

Let it be known that Eden Gardens is also called the Mecca of Indian cricket. Many major tournament matches have been played on this historic ground. Five matches of the ODI World Cup 2023 were hosted by Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The men's and women's final matches of the 2016 T20 World Cup were played here.
