The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has secured a major, blockbuster sponsorship deal ahead of IPL 2026. Google's AI platform, Gemini, has signed a three-year agreement with the BCCI, reportedly worth approximately ₹270 crore. This means the BCCI will earn around ₹90 crore annually from this deal. A BCCI official confirmed the deal to PTI, stating that the agreement is for three years and further strengthens the IPL's global brand value. The IPL is already the world's most valuable and popular T20 league, and the entry of AI companies adds a new dimension to its growth.

AI companies growing interest in cricket

This sponsorship deal with Gemini demonstrates the increasingly strong connection between cricket and artificial intelligence in India. Previously, Google's rival AI platform, ChatGPT, sponsored the Women's Premier League (WPL). This means that AI companies have now established a presence in both of India's major men's and women's T20 leagues.

When the partnership between ChatGPT and the WPL was announced, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia stated that the involvement of such global tech brands would enhance the fan experience and benefit women's cricket.

Gemini and ChatGPT

AI platforms like Gemini and ChatGPT are no longer limited to professional use in India; ordinary people are also using them extensively. These platforms are becoming increasingly important for cricket analysis, content creation, and enhancing digital experiences. This is why these companies are willing to spend significant amounts of money to expand their reach among Indian cricket fans.

When will IPL 2026 start?

The IPL 2026 season will begin after the conclusion of the 2026 T20 World Cup. This World Cup will be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7th to March 8th. Following this, IPL 2026 matches will commence on March 26th, with the final scheduled for May 31st. However, the complete schedule has not yet been released. An official announcement is expected in February.
