He is currently with the team in Lucknow, where he will undergo medical tests. The BCCI's men's selection committee has named Shahbaz Ahmed as his replacement for the T20 International matches to be played in Lucknow and Ahmedabad. This marks Shahbaz Ahmed's return to the team after two years. He last played for India in October 2023.

Shahbaz Ahmed has played three ODIs and two T20 Internationals for India. He made his international debut in 2022. He has taken 3 wickets in ODIs and 2 wickets in T20Is. He has also played for Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. He plays for Bengal in domestic cricket.

How did Axar Patel perform in the South Africa series?

Axar Patel got a chance to play in the first two matches of the South Africa series. In the first two T20 matches played in Cuttack and New Chandigarh, Axar took three wickets and scored 21 and 23 runs respectively.
