Suryakumar Yadav led India to a thrilling Super Over victory over Sri Lanka in the final Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2025 on Friday, maintaining their winning streak in the tournament.
India may have defeated Sri Lanka, but injuries have added to the team's concerns. During the match, all-rounder Hardik Pandya and in-form opener Abhishek Sharma were injured and left the field. Both star players are crucial for the final against Pakistan.
Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel has provided an update on the injuries of Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma. Speaking to the media at the Dubai International Stadium, the bowling coach stated that Abhishek is fine and will be examined on Saturday. He further stated that both players suffered cramps during the second innings and had to leave the field.
Hardik appeared to be struggling with a left hamstring injury. He left the field after bowling the first over of the Sri Lankan innings. In his first over, Hardik dismissed Kusal Mendis, who failed to score. Hardik, who was dismissed after the first over, did not return to the field.
Abhishek Sharma appeared to be in some discomfort during the ninth over. He was seen holding his right thigh while running. He eventually had to leave the field in the tenth over. Both Hardik and Abhishek used ice to relieve the cramps for the remainder of the Sri Lankan innings.
Morne Morkel told reporters, "Both of them suffered cramps during the match. We will assess Hardik's condition tonight and tomorrow morning and then make a decision. Abhishek is fine." Morkel also informed that India will not have any training session on Saturday, a day before the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan. The former South African fast bowler said that the management wants every player to get a good rest.
Morkel said, "Rest is most important for the players. Their recovery started immediately after the match. The best way to recover is to sleep and rest. Hopefully, they will have a good night's sleep."
