Two teams that haven’t yet achieved qualification will battle each other to secure the last remaining spot available. Greece and Portugal are locked in a race with Belgium to secure the fourth spot in the group. Portugal has a narrow advantage over their current opponents, having won a game in the group against Belgium. Greece on the other hand are yet to register a victory in the tournament having lost all their matches so far.
Athanasios Protopsaltis is the Greece team’s main attacking threat. He has scored 59 points on the attack for the Greek side and has also notched 80 receptions. His all-round ability makes him a legitimate point-getter for the team.
Nikos Zoupani has had a mixed campaign. He has delivered whenever called upon after coming on as a substitute in the game against Ukraine. He has scored 57 points on the attack and also has 2 aces and a block. He is not the overall machine that Protopsaltis is but he still gets his share of points.
Menelaos Kokkinakis is the libero for the game. With Portugal the better team so far in the tournament, reception opportunities will be more for the Greek libero. Kokkinakis has registered 90 receptions in the four games he has played.
Alexandre Ferreira is a must-have option in the team. The Portuguese attacker has been in ravaging form, having registered 66 receptions and 39 attack points in the three games he has started for his team. Portugal’s victory depends a lot on Ferreira’s performance.
Miguel Tavares Rodrigues is a point-getting setter. He is routinely proficient on the block and the serve and can occasionally get good points for the spike as well. His presence will be a certain boost for the team.
Miguel Tavares Rodrigues
1. Alexandre Ferreira: A Portugal victory is the likely outcome and therefore Ferreira seems like the ideal candidate for captain. He has been effective on the attack and with his receptions all tournament.
2. Athanasios Protopsaltis: Protopsaltis will be Greece’s main offensive threat and therefore their best captain’s choice. The Greek attacker will have his share of goodpoints and will provide a huge boost if captained.
