Miami Heat is set to take on Toronto Raptors in NBA 2021-22 on Tuesday, 18 January 2022 at 06:00 AM IST
Depth-wise, I feel the Heat has more options to deploy off the bench. The biggest headache for the Heat can be the duo of Van Vleet and Siakam, who have an experience of playing together for a decent amount of seasons while both of the players have been in a full groove since late December.
Not having Lowry will hurt the defensive end and vocal leadership also goes missing. For the Heat, Buttler has been rusty, for obvious reasons, he keeps getting an injury and has not caught a break so far this season.
For the Raptors, the most problematic player to stop can be Omer Yurtseven, who keeps finding his feet in the NBA, but yes, Toronto bigs like Achiuwa and Boucher have the physical tools to keep up with him.
Gary Trent Jr., a vital off-guard for the team has been hurt for a long and at some point, Toronto’s major scorers are going to run out of gas and need help from him.
Raptors’ rookie Scottie Barnes’ efficiency is down but hey, he is an all-around talent who has improved the defensive end this season.
On the other hand, one great piece of news for Heat fans is that Bam Adebayo is returning and he surely is a two-way high-quality Center, what does this mean for Omer Yurtseven?
On the other hand, there is one area where Toronto is completely outmatched and that is the bench.
The Toronto squad is nowhere even close to Miami in that area who can deploy two starting-level players in Herro and Robinson while Caleb Martin is a threat as well, it will be interesting to see who starts in place of Lowry but hey even then the Heat can deploy Vincent.
Miami has more shooters in the lineup, and their guard rotation is definitely superior to Toronto. However, the way Raptors are defending, shutting down both the perimeter and inside, Miami can have the work cut.
Toronto has kept afloat despite their obvious lack of bench from every position but the Center one, however, the team has beaten some top-heavy opponents as the starters play 35+ minutes regularly.
The Raptors’ physicality can be tackled by PJ Tucker who is perhaps the most dogged defender for Miami. I think Miami despite being deeper can be surprised by the Raptors.
