In this match, England got a target of 371 runs to win, which it achieved in the last session of the last day of the match (24 June). With this win, host England has taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series. The second Test match of the series will be played at Edgbaston from July 2.

The biggest reason for the defeat in this match was the poor fielding of the Indian team. Indian players dropped six catches in the first innings and two in the second innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped the most number of catches, 4. At the same time, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudarshan and Jasprit Bumrah could not catch a single catch each.

Yashasvi Jaiswal came running from deep backward square leg, but he could not judge the ball correctly. The ball came in his hand, but he could not catch it. Yashasvi Jaiswal's recent performance (4 dropped catches in the Headingley Test, June 2025) is a contemporary and widely reported instance. Apart from this, some more instances are found from old records and reports, which are difficult to record with exact number, but these were also big drops. Here we will tell you which player has dropped the most catches.

Andy Blignaut (Zimbabwe): In the 2005 Harare Test between Zimbabwe and India, Andy Blignaut was dropped on three consecutive balls off Zaheer Khan's bowling. This was a very rare instance which was also called a "hat-trick of dropped catches", in which not only the bowler but the catchers were different fielders.

Hashim Amla (South Africa): In 2010 in Nagpur against India, Hashim Amla was also dropped 5 times in a single innings. He was successful in scoring 253 runs in that match. The drops were made by different players.

Taufeeq Umar (Pakistan): In 2011, against West Indies in St Kitts, Taufeeq Umar was dropped 5 times in an innings. He scored 135 runs.

Kane Williamson (New Zealand): In 2014, against Sri Lanka in Wellington, Kane Williamson was dropped 5 times in an innings. He was successful in scoring 242* runs in that match.
