This mega auction will give teams the opportunity to rethink their strategies and completely revamp their team structures for the 2026 season. However, teams are still awaiting official confirmation from the WPL regarding the number of players, auction amounts, retention slabs, and the number of Right-to-Match (RTM) cards.
According to an ESPN Cricinfo report, all these important decisions will be finalized by the WPL committee, but the date of the committee meeting has not yet been announced.

There are differing opinions among franchises regarding this mega auction
Opposition: Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Delhi Capitals, finalists in all three WPL seasons so far, are not in favor of this mega auction. They argue that dismantling their hard-built teams could prove counterproductive.
In Support: On the other hand, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriors, who have not yet reached the finals, are supporting this auction. They see it as a great opportunity to overhaul and rebuild their teams.
Teams like RCB have shown in the IPL that they can build a strong brand identity without retaining key players, but the WPL aims to ensure that teams have the opportunity to retain their core players.

The WPL has brought about a major change in women's cricket, especially due to the financial benefits it offers players. The league's success has been evident since its inception in 2023. The Mumbai Indians emerged as the inaugural champions, followed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2024.
The broadcast rights for the league were acquired by Viacom18 for ₹951 crore (₹951 crore) for the 2023-2027 period, making the per-match value $7.09 crore (₹709 crore). This figure reflects the growing importance of the WPL.
