The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to begin on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates. Eight teams will compete for the coveted trophy, where new records are expected to be made and old ones broken. However, one old record seems almost certain to be broken - the record for bowling the most maiden overs in Asia Cup history.
The record is held by veteran Sri Lankan pacer Chaminda Vaas, who is way ahead of him in the race. Considered one of Sri Lanka's best pacers, Vaas has taken 761 international wickets across formats, including 400 wickets in ODIs. In the Asia Cup, Chaminda Vaas represented Sri Lanka and took 23 wickets in 19 matches at an average of 27.78 and an impressive economy rate of 4.19. He bowled 20 maiden overs in the tournament—a record that no one has been able to break.
He is followed by Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan who has bowled 13 maiden overs, while left-arm pacer Nuwan Zoysa is second with 11 maiden overs.
