Team India's performance in T20 World Cup 2007: The inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup was held in South Africa. India's campaign began with a match against Scotland, which was abandoned. Their next match was against Pakistan, which turned out to be a thriller and went down in the pages of history as the winner was decided via a ball-out after the match was tied. The ball-out ended in India's favour and they beat Pakistan 3–0. India lost their next match against New Zealand, but won three games in a row, including the semi-final against Australia. In the final, India beat Pakistan by five runs in the last over to win the first T20 World Cup title. Gautam Gambhir was India's best batsman with 227 runs, while RP Singh was India's best bowler with five wickets.
Team India's performance in T20 World Cup 2009: Team India were aiming to retain the title but suffered a defeat in the opening match in England. India started their campaign with a 25-run win over Bangladesh but suffered three consecutive defeats against West Indies, England and South Africa, resulting in them failing to qualify for the semi-finals. For India, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh scored 153 runs with the bat while spinner Pragyan Ojha and left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan took seven wickets each.

But their performance in the Super 8s was disastrous and they lost all three of their matches. For the second time in a row, India failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Team India's performance in T20 World Cup 2014: In 2014, India came very close to winning their second title in the T20 format but lost to Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final. Team India dominated the entire tournament with five consecutive wins. Virat Kohli led the batting unit with an unbeaten 77 in the final but India were bowled out for 130 in the first innings. Sri Lanka chased the target in 17.5 overs to win their T20 World Cup title. Kohli became the top scorer in the tournament with 319 runs while Ravichandran Ashwin was India's leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets.
