New Zealand have won a thrilling one-run victory in the second Test against England in Wellington. Talking about the record, this happened only for the fourth time in the history of cricket, when a team won a Test match after playing the follow-on.

This happened for the first time in 1894 when a team won a Test match even after following on in the second innings. When England toured Australia for a 5 test series in 1894, England and Australia faced each other for the first test match at Sydney on 14 December 1894, where Australia added a total of 586 runs on the scoreboard.
When England walked out, they could only manage 325 and Australia forced them to follow on. In the second innings, England came back strongly and added 437 runs and thus gave Australia a target of 177 runs. But in the first innings, the batsman was seen, Australia could not handle the bowlers of England and got out for 166 runs. In this way, England won the match by 10 runs even after playing the follow on.

In 1981, when Australia went to England for a 6 Test series, Australia and England were pitted against each other in the 3rd Test match at Leeds on 16 July 1981. Australia won the toss and decided to bat first, added 401 runs for 9 wickets and declared their innings. John Dyson of Australia scored a century in Australia's first innings. When England came out to bat at number two, their batsmen could not last long and were dismissed for 174 runs, in which Ian Botham scored 50 runs.
Later, the Australian captain forced England to follow on and they added 356 runs in the second innings. England's Ian Botham added a crucial 149 to help them reach that level. Australia were set a target of 130 which was not that big but the England bowlers especially Bob Willis put in an incredible performance and took 8 wickets. Australia's innings collapsed on a score of 111 in which their 4 wickets were dismissed without scoring a run. In this way England won the match by 18 runs and Ian Botham was adjudged man of the match in that match.

The Eden Gardens Classic of 2001 is probably the most talked about Test. India were trailing in the three-match series, and after they were forced to follow-on in the second innings of the second Test, it looked like Australia would complete their 17th consecutive win in the format.
But then, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid happened. With Laxman at No.3 and Dravid battling fever, a rearguard action from the pair saw India go through the entire Day 4 without losing a wicket. With the help of Laxman's 281 and Dravid's 180, India declared their second innings at 657/7 on the last day. Chasing an impossible 384, Australia succumbed to the mastery of Harbhajan Singh, while Sachin Tendulkar also took three wickets. India bounced back with an emphatic 171-run victory that leveled the series, before pulling off a comprehensive victory in the final Test in Chennai.

The New Zealand team had to follow-on after trailing by 226 runs in the first innings at the Wellington ground in the second match of the two-match Test series being played in their host. However, the hosts made the most of it as the English bowlers had bowled close to 54 overs. The Kiwi team scored fast against them.
New Zealand won the Test match by one run by follow-on, In this match, the England team declared the innings for 435 runs after losing 8 wickets in the first innings. After this, the New Zealand team was piled on for 209 runs, but in the third innings and playing the follow-on, the New Zealand team scored 483 runs in their second consecutive innings. In this way, England had a target of 258 runs to win, in response to which the England team was bundled out for 256 runs and lost the match by 1 run. In this way the two-match series ended in a 1-1 draw. And became the fourth team to win after playing follow-on test matches
