Lanka Premier League postponed due to T20 World Cup 2026?: The full schedule for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup has been released. 55 matches will be played between 20 teams at eight venues in India and Sri Lanka. The tournament begins on February 7th, with teams like India and Pakistan taking the field on the opening day. The group stage will consist of three matches each day. The World Cup final will be held on March 8th, with the Indian Premier League expected to begin a week later. However, the Lanka Premier League, which was scheduled to precede the World Cup, has been postponed and will now take place in July-August next year.

The Lanka Premier League is organized by Sri Lanka Cricket. The LPL was scheduled to be held this month (December 2025), but the Sri Lanka Cricket Board is currently busy preparing for the World Cup. India and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup, with Pakistan playing all its matches in Sri Lanka. If the Pakistani team reaches the final, the title match will also be held in Colombo.

Sri Lanka Cricket wrote in its post, "Given the urgent need to prepare the host venues for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 well in advance, the Lanka Premier League has been postponed. The World Cup will be jointly hosted by Sri Lanka and India during February-March 2026. With this decision, the five-team tournament, Sri Lanka's biggest domestic T20 competition, will return to mid-year, as in previous editions.

T20 World Cup 2026 matches to be held at three venues in Sri Lanka: The T20 World Cup 2026 matches will be held at a total of eight venues, spanning five cities in India (Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai). The R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo), the SSC Cricket Ground (Colombo), and the Pallekele Cricket Stadium (Kandy) have been selected as the three venues in Sri Lanka.
