The report states that Shami's return is now considered very difficult. The main reasons for this are:

  • Age: Shami is now over 35 years old, making it difficult for him to make a comeback.
  • Lack of domestic performance: His domestic cricket performance has been poor in recent times, which has not impressed the selectors.
  • Lack of pace: A BCCI official said that Shami's bowling pace no longer has the edge it used to have.

Shami last played for India in March 2025 during the Champions Trophy. After that, he remained out of international cricket due to injuries and participated only in domestic matches.

A BCCI official gave a clear opinion on the matter, saying:

"It is becoming increasingly difficult for Shami to return to Team India at this time. He wasn't very effective in the Duleep Trophy matches either, with only a few good spells. Furthermore, he is getting older and his pace has lost its former sharpness. If Shami wants to continue playing in the IPL, he will need to participate regularly in domestic cricket."
