Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket on December 18, 2024. Although he's no longer seen on the field, he's set some truly remarkable records in his career that are virtually impossible to break.

Ashwin, besides being a great bowler, has also been a reliable lower-order batsman. He holds the record for scoring over 1,000 runs and taking over 100 wickets in Test cricket. He is the eighth Indian player to achieve this feat. Ashwin accomplished this feat in just his 18th Test match, the fastest by any Indian player. Throughout his career, he scored 3,503 runs with the bat and took a total of 537 wickets with the ball.

Another notable achievement of R. Ashwin is that he holds the unique record of scoring a century and taking 5 wickets in the same innings of a Test match. He is only the third Indian bowler to achieve this feat. He achieved this feat in the 2011 match against the West Indies at the Wankhede Cricket Stadium, where he scored 103 runs with the bat and also took 5 wickets with the ball.

Winning the Player of the Series award in Test cricket is a testament to any player's consistency. In this respect, R. Ashwin is unmatched. Ashwin has won this award a total of 11 times in his 106 Test career, the most Player of the Series awards won by any player in Test cricket history. This record reflects his ability to transform matches in every series.

R. Ashwin holds another significant achievement, one that even legendary Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh could never achieve. He is the bowler who has taken 50 or more Test wickets for India the most number of times in different calendar years. Ashwin has achieved this four times, taking more than 50 wickets in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2021. This is a testament to his excellent form and fitness.

R. Ashwin, who always troubles batsmen with his magical off-spin, holds the record for the fastest 350 Test wickets. Ashwin achieved this feat in his 66th Test match. This record is very special because he is the joint fastest bowler in the world, along with Sri Lankan great Muttiah Muralitharan, and the first Indian spinner to reach 350 Test wickets in 66 matches.
