Star cricketer Dinesh Karthik has retired from all formats of cricket. Wicketkeeper batsman Karthik announced his retirement on his 39th birthday on June 1 (Saturday). Karthik was recently seen playing for RCB in the IPL season. Karthik has posted on social media and recalled his more than two-decade-long cricket career.
Karthik wrote on Instagram I am overwhelmed by the affection, support and love I have received in the last few days. I express my heartfelt gratitude and gratitude to all the fans who made this possible. After thinking for a long time, I have decided to retire from cricket. I officially announce my retirement. Leaving my playing days behind, I am getting ready for new challenges ahead.

Dinesh Karthik started his international cricket career before MS Dhoni. Karthik made his Test debut against Australia in November 2004. He made his ODI debut against England at Lord's on 5 September 2004. He made his T20 debut against South Africa in Johannesburg on 1 December 2006. Dhoni made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Chennai in December 2005. Dhoni's ODI debut was against Bangladesh in Chittagong in December 2004. However, Dhoni and DK made their T20 debut in the same match, which was played against South Africa.
Dinesh Karthik has been among the players who have played since the initial season of IPL. He scored 4842 runs in 257 matches by hitting 22 half-centuries. Karthik is among the top 10 run-scorers in IPL history. During this, Karthik also took 147 catches and 37 stumps.
Karthik also performed well in IPL 2024 and scored 326 runs in 15 matches playing the role of finisher. Karthik had brought himself back in the race to make it to the T20 World Cup team with his performance. India captain Rohit Sharma had also jokingly told Karthik on the field with the experienced wicketkeeper that DK is yet to play the World Cup,
Dinesh Karthik has represented six teams in his IPL career. He started with Delhi Daredevils in 2008 and moved to Punjab in 2011. He spent the next two seasons with Mumbai before returning to Delhi in 2014. He was signed by RCB in 2015. He then played for Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 and then played four seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders. He then returned to the KKR team, which he also captained. Karthik returned to RCB in 2022 and played the role of finisher very well.
Dinesh Karthik scored 1025 runs in 26 Test matches for India. During this, he also took 57 catches and 6 stumps. While representing Team India in 94 ODIs, he scored 1752 runs, during this he also took 64 catches and 7 stumps. While playing 60 T20 matches, he scored 686 runs, in this format he also took 30 catches and 6 stumps.
