The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is shaping up to be another blockbuster season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has selected 18 stadiums across the country. The league is expected to begin on March 26 and conclude with the final on May 31, but the official match schedule has not yet been announced due to upcoming state assembly elections in several states.

The IPL Governing Council has decided that the final schedule will only be released after the Election Commission of India confirms the voting dates. Assembly elections are expected to be held in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry during April-May 2026, many of which are key regions where IPL matches are played. This delay is primarily due to the security and logistical challenges posed by holding the tournament during the election period.

Meanwhile, RR and RCB have been asked by the BCCI to confirm whether they can host IPL matches in Jaipur and Bengaluru, respectively. The deadline for providing this information is January 27th.
