Chinese tech company Xiaomi's technology launch event 'Stride' will be held on December 28. In this event, the company is going to unveil the technology of its first electric car SU7.
The company has given this information in a post on social media platform X. The chassis of the car is shown in the poster shared in the post. It has 'STRIDE' written prominently on it, which hints at competition from big companies like Tesla and BYD in the EV market.
The company is entering the EV industry after several years of effort, including more than 3,400 engineers and an initial investment of approximately $1.5 billion.
Xiaomi unveiled its first electric car SU7 on 17 November 2023. This all-electric sedan will be manufactured at Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company Limited (BAIC), but will carry MI branding. This car will come in three variants – SU7, SU7 Pro and SU7 Max. In the global market, it will compete with cars like BMW i4, BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3.
Leaks related to the specifications of this Xiaomi car have come to light. Many media reports have claimed that this car will be equipped with LiDAR technology for self-driving. Apart from this, the car will get features like central control display, three-spoke steering wheel and face-recognition unlocking from B-pillar camera.
The front design of Xiaomi SU7 is inspired by the new McLaren. The headlights look like a slimmed down version of the McLarens 750S. The rear of the EV sedan features slim wrap around tail-lights and a light bar connecting the two.
Active rear wing can be given in higher variants. The SU7 will be available in 19 and 20-inch alloy wheels with 245/45 R19 and 245/40 R20 tire options.
Xiaomi SU7 will be offered with two powertrain options. It will get a rear-wheel-drive edition with a 220 kW motor. The company claims that its maximum power will be 295 hp and will be able to achieve a top speed of 210 kmph.
In the second option, a 495 kW dual-motor setup will be available with all wheel drive option. Its maximum power will be 664hp and top speed will be 265 kmph.
The option of two battery packs will be available with SU7. It will get a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD for the entry-level variant and a larger CATL battery pack in the top variant. However, the company has not disclosed the battery capacity and range.
The interior of the SU7 has not been revealed. It is expected to get two theme interiors. At the same time, a connected screen can be provided for touchscreen infotainment system and driver display on the dashboard.
The car will be equipped with Xiaomi's HyperOS, an in-house developed operation system that can power both the smartphone and the car. Mass production of the car is scheduled to begin later this year, with deliveries expected to begin in February 2024.
The company has 4 more models in the pipeline, including an SUV to be launched in 2025. Xiaomi had announced to invest over Rs 3,700 crore in its EV division, Xiaomi Automobile, in 2022.
