WPL 2026 Retention Players List: WPL Players Retention List Released: Ahead of the mega auction for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026, big news has emerged regarding the list of retained players. Four key players from India's World Cup-winning team, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma, have been retained by their teams.
Meanwhile, Australian stars Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning, and New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr have been released by their franchises. Along with these three, Deepti Sharma, who performed brilliantly in the 2025 World Cup final, has also been released. Deepti captained the UP Warriors in 2025 in Healy's absence.
Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have retained the most players, with five each. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have retained four, Gujarat Giants two, and UP Warriors one.
WPL 2026 Retention Rules -
Each franchise can retain a maximum of five players, including three Indian and two foreign players. If a team retains five players, at least one of them must be an uncapped Indian player. This year, the WPL introduced the Right to Match (RTM) option for the first time, allowing teams to repurchase their existing players at the auction. If a team retains three or four players, they will receive two more players and an RTM card to use during the mega auction.
Auction Amount and Retention Value -
The WPL 2026 mega auction is expected to be held in Delhi on November 27. Each team has a reserve of ₹15 crore (approximately ₹1.5 billion). Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians will now have a reserve of ₹5.75 crore (approximately ₹1.5 billion), and neither will have any RTM. UP Warriors, who have retained an uncapped player named Shweta Sehrawat, will have the highest purse of ₹14.5 crore and four RTMs. Gujarat Giants will have three RTMs and a purse of ₹9 crore for Indian players only, while RCB will have one RTM and ₹6.25 crore.
