The Congress alliance has announced the name of retired judge B. Sudarshan Reddy for the post of Vice President on Tuesday (August 19, 2025). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge gave this information in a press conference. During this, Sharad Pawar and many big leaders of the alliance were present with him.
Former Supreme Court judge and Goa Lokayukta B. Sudarshan Reddy was born in Andhra Pradesh in 1946. He comes from a farmer family. He did his studies in Hyderabad and received a law degree from Osmania University in 1971.Who is B. Sudarshan Reddy?
B. Sudarshan Reddy was enrolled as an advocate with the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council at Hyderabad on 27 December 1971. He has practised in writ and civil cases in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He served as Government Pleader in the High Court during 1988-90. He also served as Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government for a period of 6 months during 1990.
B. Sudarshan Reddy also served as Legal Adviser and Standing Counsel of Osmania University. He was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on 2 May 1995. Thereafter, on 5 December 2005, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. Apart from this, on 12 January 2007, he was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, from where he retired on 8 July 2011.
