Wazir Mohammad, Pakistan’s Oldest Cricketer, Passes Away at 95: Mohammad Wazir played 20 Test matches for Pakistan between 1952 and 1959. He was the oldest surviving member of the Pakistani team that played its first Test series in 1952.

Pakistan's oldest cricketer, Wazir Mohammad, died on October 13 in Birmingham at the age of 95. Wazir was the elder brother of Pakistani Test players Hanif, Mushtaq, and Sadiq Mohammad. He played 20 Test matches for Pakistan between 1952 and 1959. He was the oldest surviving member of the Pakistani team that played its first Test series in 1952.

Mohsin Naqvi expresses condolences:

After retiring from cricket, Mohammad Wazir also served as an advisor to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He then moved to the UK and passed away there. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his condolences to the family through a condolence message and praised Wazir's significant contribution to Pakistan cricket. In a statement issued by the PCB, Naqvi said that Wazir Mohammad was a good batsman and a very intelligent person. May God grant peace to his departed soul and give patience to the bereaved family.

Mohammad Wazir played many memorable innings for Pakistan:

Like his other brothers, Wazir was also an artistic batsman. He played many memorable innings in Test cricket for Pakistan. This includes a brilliant innings of 189 runs against the West Indies in Port of Spain in 1957-58. With this innings, he played a key role in Pakistan's victory in that match. He scored the most runs in a Test match against England at the Oval in 1954. Pakistan won the match by 42 runs.

How was Wazir Mohammad's performance in first-class and Test cricket?

Wazir Mohammad made his Test debut against India in 1952. His last match was against Australia in Dhaka in 1959. He represented Pakistan for only seven years. He also played county cricket for several years. Wazir represented Pakistan in 20 Test matches and scored 801 runs at an average of 27.62, including two centuries and three half-centuries. In 105 first-class matches, he scored 4930 runs at an average of 40.40, with 11 centuries and 26 half-centuries.
