Former Indian cricketer and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has been given a big responsibility by the ICC. He has been re-appointed as the chairman of the ICC's Men's Cricket Committee. Ganguly was first given the post of president in the year 2021, at that time he replaced Anil Kumble. Before that Kumble had completed his three terms. Apart from Ganguly, VVS Laxman has also been made a part of this committee.
The members who will be part of the ICC Men's Cricket Committee along with Sourav Ganguly include VVS Laxman, former Afghanistan cricketer Hamid Hassan, West Indies veteran Desmond Haynes, South Africa's Test and ODI team captain Temba Bavuma and former England cricketer Jonathan Trott.
Talking about the ICC Women's Cricket Committee, former New Zealand off-spin bowler Katherine Campbell has been appointed as the chairperson. Apart from her, former Australian players Avril Fahi and Flotsy Moseki have also been included in the women's committee.
New initiative for displaced women cricketers of Afghanistan
ICC has recently started a new initiative in collaboration with BCCI, ECB and Australian Cricket Board. After the Taliban government came to power in Afghanistan, many restrictions were imposed on women. In such a situation, women were also barred from playing cricket. Now after the new initiative of ICC, displaced Afghan women cricketers will be provided financial assistance as well as world-class facilities for training.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah also expressed happiness over this new initiative. He said that this initiative will bring a new ray of hope among women cricketers.
