US chip maker Qualcomm has announced that it is going to launch the Snapdragon X platform in India this month. The company gave this information on the social media platform X (earlier Twitter). According to the post, a special event will be organized on February 24, in which this new chip will be launched in India. This new chip of Qualcomm Snapdragon X series was first introduced at CES 2024 (Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas). It is designed to power budget friendly AI PCs. The company's post mentions "AI PCs for everyone", which makes it clear that this chip will be suitable for laptops cheaper than Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus.
What will be special in Snapdragon X?
The Snapdragon X chip is based on ARM architecture and has an 8-core Orion CPU with a maximum multi-core frequency of 3.0 GHz. In comparison, the Snapdragon X Elite has a 12-core CPU that gives a speed of up to 3.8 GHz. At the same time, some variants of the Snapdragon X Plus have 8-core CPUs, but their frequency is higher than the Snapdragon X.
The biggest feature of this chip is its neural processing unit (NPU), which has a capacity of 45 TOPS (trillion operations per second). It has been designed to better support the Microsoft Copilot+ PC platform and AI-powered features. Other features include better battery life, Bluetooth 5.4 support, Wi-Fi 7, and the ability to support up to three 4K UHD monitors (60Hz) simultaneously.
