National Games 2025: Dev Meena and Sumit Kumar won gold medal

In the women's 3000m steeplechase at the National Games, Uttarakhand's Ankita topped the event with a timing of 9 minutes 53.63 seconds while Punjab's Niharika Vashisht won the women's triple jump gold with an effort of 13.37 metres.

National Games 2025: Dev Meena and Sumit Kumar won gold medal

Madhya Pradesh's Dev Kumar Meena won the gold medal in the men's pole vault event with a national record of 5.32m at the National Games 2025 in Dehradun on February 12. Eight gold medals were up for grabs on the third day of the athletics competitions, with Punjab bagging three while Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Army, Tamil Nadu and hosts Uttarakhand bagged one each. Nineteen-year-old Dev won the gold while defending his 2023 title and also improving S Shiva's national record of 5.31m, which he set during the 2022 National Games in Gujarat. Dev's previous personal best was 5.20m, which he set while winning the India Open Under-23 event in Patna last year.

Dev said after the competition that the journey to reach the national record has been a long one. His biggest support has been from his family and coach. He said that he comes from a farmer family and reaching this point has been full of struggles for him. Today he wanted to do something extraordinary and he created history. G Reagan (five meters) of Tamil Nadu won the silver while Kuldeep Kumar (five meters) of Uttar Pradesh won the bronze medal. Anushka Yadav of Uttar Pradesh won the gold medal in the women's shot put event with a Games record effort of 62.89 meters. Earlier, the National Games record was in the name of Tanya Chaudhary of Uttar Pradesh who won the gold medal with an effort of 62.47 meters in the 2023 National Games.

Gold for Tejinder Pal Singh Toor

On Monday, Tanya finished second with an effort of 59.74 meters while Nandini from Uttar Pradesh won the bronze medal with an effort of 58.89 meters. In men's shot put, national record holder Tejinder Pal Singh Toor of Punjab won the gold medal with an effort of 19.74 meters. Defending champion Samardeep Singh Gill (19.38 meters) of Madhya Pradesh and Prabhkripal Singh (19.04 seconds) of Punjab won the silver and bronze medals respectively. Jyoti Yaraji of Andhra Pradesh, who won the gold medal in women's 100 meter hurdles on Sunday, made it to the 200 meter final by winning her heat in 23.85 seconds. Army's Sumit Kumar won the gold in men's 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of eight minutes 46.26 seconds while Tamil Nadu's 4x400 meter relay team of Gitson Dharmare, Akash Babu, Vasan and Ashwin Krishna also won the title.
