Shashi Tharoor, who was in Nagpur to watch the match, thoroughly enjoyed the stadium atmosphere and later posted a witty tweet. Tharoor wrote, "I concluded my Nagpur trip by watching the India-New Zealand T20 match from the stadium. I wasn't sitting in some air-conditioned box, completely detached from the energy and roar of the 45,000 spectators. I had to give more selfies than the runs scored by New Zealand, but I thoroughly enjoyed the match and the victory." His tweet received a tremendous response from fans and went viral on social media within a few hours.

In the first T20 match played in Nagpur, Team India, despite losing the toss, posted a massive total while batting first. Captain Suryakumar Yadav contributed 32 runs, while Rinku Singh remained unbeaten with 44 runs off 20 balls. Team India finished their 20 overs with a score of 238 for 7 wickets.

Chasing the target, New Zealand could only manage 190 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. India won the match by 48 runs. The New Zealand batting lineup struggled against the Indian bowling attack, and the required run rate remained consistently high. Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Match for his explosive innings, which is considered one of the best of his T20 International career.
