ICC suspends Haris Rauf for two matches, fines Bumrah and Suryakumar
The ICC has banned Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf for two matches. The ICC's Match Referee Panel heard all three India vs. Pakistan matches played in the Asia Cup. At the hearing, Haris Rauf was found guilty of Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, resulting in a two-match ban. Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Sahibzada Farhan were also banned.
Haris Rauf suspended for two matches -
The first incident occurred during the India vs. Pakistan match on September 14. Rauf was fined 30 percent of his match fee and given two demerit points. During the Super 6 match, Rauf abused and attempted to assault Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. After being trolled by Indian fans, he also made inflammatory gestures while fielding. This time, he was also fined 30 percent of his match fee and given two demerit points.
It is worth noting that a player who receives four demerit points in a 24-month period is banned for one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is. Therefore, Haris Rauf has been banned from the first two matches of the ODI series against South Africa.
Why were Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav punished?
Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, like Haris Rauf, was found guilty under Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct. He was also fined 30 percent of his match fee and given two demerit points. If Suryakumar Yadav receives two demerit points again, he could face suspension like Haris Rauf.
Sahibzada Farhan was let off with a warning for his gun celebration, but also received a demerit point. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah made an airplane gesture in response to Haris Rauf. He was also let off with a warning, but like Farhan, he also received a demerit point.
