Former opener Gautam Gambhir, who was a member of India's T20 and ODI World Cup winning team, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team.
The 42-year-old left-handed batsman, who played a key role in India's two World Cup victories, was the frontrunner to replace Dravid. Dravid's tenure ended with India's victory in the T20 World Cup in Barbados last month. Gambhir's first tour as India's coach will be Sri Lanka where the team will play a series of three T20s and as many ODIs from July 27.
Gambhir's name was agreed upon quite early, but the announcement of his name was getting delayed as it was believed that there was some problem with Gambhir regarding salary and that is why it was taking time. But it seems that this agreement has been reached and Gambhir's name has been announced.

How much salary will Gautam Gambhir get?
Media reports are claiming that he will get more salary than his predecessor Rahul Dravid. BCCI adopts a flexible approach regarding the salary of the coach. This salary can be negotiated. And experience has a great impact on it. If reports are to be believed, Rahul Dravid used to get an annual salary of Rs 12 crore and Gambhir will get more salary than this.
BCCI gives its coach other facilities along with salary. During the tour, the head coach gets a chance to travel in business class. This is done so that the players and coaching staff do not get tired before the tour and it does not affect the game.
The BCCI also pays a daily allowance to the head coach on overseas tours. In 2019, it was doubled to $250 per day.
